Attacking rugby is an art. It’s the ultimate match within a match, and there’s a lot of moving parts – and that’s why there’s been so few world class attacking gurus of the game. My main influences came from Pierre Villepreux, Brian Ashton, Ian McGeechan and a fair few players.
Attack is about creating space, and attacking that space. It’s about support-running and a lot of communication, before and during phase play. It’s also about practising plays, and repeating them until the moves are owned and you can run them in your sleep.
