Well that didn’t take long. No sooner had we mentioned in this column and elsewhere that were looking to pre-sell 750 collectors’ editions of the club’s 125th anniversary history than that landmark has been reached. There is still life – and much pride – in the old club yet.

It was an important moment because, at £60 a time, the of the deluxe signed editions – with each purchaser getting a special mention in a roll of honour at the back – will provide the finance for a larger commercial run of more modestly priced editions.

They will be available from the autumn onwards. A significant donation from sales of the book will be divided between the London Irish Foundation and the amateur club’s injured player fund.
