IN THE rarefied atmosphere of Loftus Versfeld on Friday night, Morne Steyn climbed ever closer to a peak beyond the reach of any goalkicking contemporary.
Way up in Pretoria where the stampeding Blue Bulls thrive on their own brand of herd immunity, the ageless Springbok is not far off a landmark very nearly as high as the city itself, all of 4,393 feet above sea-level.
At his current rate of progress, Steyn may well last long enough to score a point for every foot of Pretoria’s altitude.
