WINNING three major titles on the trot is incredibly difficult – witness England in the Six Nations – and Cranleigh fell just short at the Rosslyn Park Nations Schools Sevens this week when they lost to a superb Sedbergh side in the Open final.
Cranleigh, winners in the previous two years, had been hoping to emulate Llanelli GS who achieved the feat 55 years ago but although they advanced unbeaten through the competiton they finally hit the wall against a Sedbergh side who were well led by scrum-half Tom Walsh who won the player of the tournament award.
Sedbergh won 26-12 and also had the satisfaction of disappearing back up to Cumbria with a second piece of silverware, having won the Colts competition on Wednesday. Perhaps they will be the next school chasing the treble
