The shortlist for the Director of Rugby of the Season award has been announced today and features coaches at the top and bottom of Aviva Premiership Rugby.
Mark McCall and Richard Cockerill, who sit at the top of the table with Saracens and Leicester respectively have been shortlisted along with London Wasps‘ boss Dai Young and London Welsh Lyn Jones.
The successor of Exeter‘s Rob Baxter will be announced on May 9 with Cockerill going for his second crown having won the award in 2009.
This is the second shortlist announcement in two days after the six players in the race for the Player of the Season were announced yesterday.
“Aviva Premiership Rugby is fortunate to have some of the best coaches in the world working for our 12 clubs,” said Phil Winstanley the Rugby Director at Premiership Rugby. “This is good news for the League but made the choice of selecting the shortlist very difficult indeed and it is a credit to all four of these coaches that they made it onto the list.
“If you look at the list of previous winners you will see a who’s who of rugby coaching so the winner will be stepping into some very big shoes.”

Well done Lyn, in the face of adversity, you’re being hung out to dry.
