1. Dave Hilton – Now coaching with me at Moseley. When he left Bath to go to Scotland they went through about five props before realising they were never going to find someone as good as him.
2. Keith Wood – Keith was an inspirational leader in the Irish side. He was brilliant on and off the field and an incredible hooker.
3. Paul Wallace – We were due to go on the same Ireland development tour in 1997 to New Zealand when he got called up to the Lions. He, Keith and Jeremy Davidson were unbelievable on that tour.
4. Jeremy Davidson – He’s one of the toughest second rows I’ve played with and it’s just a shame he got a cruciate injury which forced him to retire.
5. Paul O’Connell – A special player like Peter Stringer and Ronan O’Gara, who transformed Ireland and Munster. His attitude and work ethic are second to none.
6. Richie McCaw – I’m putting two opensides in my team so McCaw will slot in at six. I played against him when he made his debut in Ireland and I was amazed at his speed.
7. Kieron Dawson – Kieron was a fantastic player. If his body had been able to cope with all the work he put in, he would have won a lot more caps.
8. Gary Teichmann – An incredible No.8 and a great leader. I played with him for the Baa-baas, much easier than playing against him!
9. Jon Preston – At Bath it was like having an extra forward on the pitch, he would throw himself into everything. When he emerged from those tackles he would then slot kicks from the touchline.
10. Mike Catt – He made it so easy for me playing outside him at Bath giving me time on the ball and creating space. The best attacking fly-half England have had for a long time.
11. Jonah Lomu – I played with him for the Barbarians against Scotland in 2001. Against a full Scottish team he scored four tries, could have scored another three but passed to someone else and came off after an hour. Just unbelievable.
12. Tim Horan – At the 1999 RWC, he was unbelievable and rightly got the player of the tournament.
13. Brian O’Driscoll – I was there for his debut against Australia and on the wing when he scored that hat-trick in Paris. I could have scored those tries if he’d passed it!
14. Jeff Wilson – In NZ with the Ireland development squad we played their academy when he was proving his fitness. He scored five tries and no one laid a hand on him. Next week he got five for the All Blacks against Fiji.
15. Conor O’Shea – An incredible player for London Irish, now making a pretty good job of coaching Quins.
