I UNDERSTAND the arguments against offering an olive branch to the three ‘Phoenix clubs’, as detailed in Nick Cain’s column last week, due to the previous harsh treatment of other unfortunate clubs who were forced to restart at the bottom of the rugby pyramid, such as London Welsh and Richmond.
However, I believe that just because previous mistakes were made it should not mean they have to be made again. It is a different RFU management in place now and I for one applaud them for this move.
Providing no current Championship team is forced to drop out of the league...
