LEEDS Tykes maintained their unbeaten start to the campaign with a dazzling attacking display to ultimately overpower a brave Hull Ionians.
Star man Ben Dixon spoke after the match, praising the “cohesion” of the Tykes’ backline. He was the nucleus of many attacking phases as the outside backs reaped the rewards of his endeavours.
A tense opening period saw the scores level at three apiece, James Watts and Lewis Minikin trading penalties.
Toby Williams crashed over from short range to edge Leeds back in front, before Alfredo Celella finished off the best try of the game for the visitors. Minikin’s missed conversion meant Leeds remained ahead.
Dixon dotted down after 30 minutes to extend Leeds’ interval lead.
A relentless second half burst into life as Tykes wrapped up their bonus point through the impressive Jack Smith.
Minikin scored off the back of great work from Celella before the wing scored his second. Between the two scores was another Watts penalty which gave Leeds comfort. Ollie Williams scored his first Tykes try to round off their scorbefore Cameron Burn-hill’s unconverted score gave Ionians a richly deserved try bonus point.
