Uni boys maintain top start to their campaign

EXETER University continued their unbeaten start to the season with a solid win.

But it didn’t start well for the hosts as Harry Hughes opened the scoring for the visitors after three minutes.

The Uni boys soon responded as finished by Tom Burton in the corner, and Sam Walker converted.

Conor Byrne doubled the lead after everyone was stuck in the maul, leaving space on the left wing for the try.

Then Josh Golden-Clarke scored Exeter’s third.

Thomas Jennings was quickly able to respond with a try and keep the game alive. But just as they got back into the game Ollie Longmore was sin binned for high tackle.

After the break, Exeter continued to dominate, with Sam Erskine finishing off.

Macclesfield were hit back through Benedict Blackburn, before Jennings was yellow carded for a deliberate knock on.

Robert Gaffan scored two minutes after the card, but once again Macclesfield responded with George Boughey diving over.

But Exeter soon reinstated their lead with a brilliant finish from Byrne. Walker added another conversion.

With the game fizzling out, there was just time for Walker to add another penalty to put the game beyond doubt.
