There is so much that makes so little sense in the English club game.
Nothing made this as obvious as Wednesday’s announcement by the RFU that Doncaster, the Championship’s fifth placed club, has passed the so-called Minimum Standards Criteria. It made Doncaster the only club in the second pro tier eligible for promotion to the Premiership this season.
