HE was born in the Old Town of Edinburgh, died in the New Town and spent much of his life within gentle strolling distance of a freshly renamed patch of land to the west of the city centre: Murrayfield. It would be nice to think of David Hume, that giant of the Scottish Enlightenment, as the house philosopher of the national rugby team, but as the union game wasn’t even a thing in the 1770s, they must make do with Jim Telfer instead.
All the same, today’s Test side can take inspiration from Hume as they embark on yet another recovery mission following a third...
