LEINSTER joint captain Garry Ringrose was relieved to get the win after being forced to dig deeper than anticipated.
“We are delighted to get five points against a quality team like Sale but we will feel there is a lot we can improve on,” said Ringrose.
Player of the match Josh van der Flier, who scored Leinster opening try on the cusp of half-time, was pleased they could grind out the victory and make it two wins from two after their opening-round success in France against La Rochelle.
He said: “It was a tough first half, Sale are a very good team. Disappointing last few minutes to concede few tries but overall very happy with that. Credit to Sale, they came out quickly.
“It was really good how we dug in and came back with a few scores. Going into Christmas with two wins in Europe after two good teams, we’ll enjoy Christmas.”
Sale director of rugby Alex Sanderson rued not getting anything out of the game but praised his side’e effort. “I knew we had a competitive team, we didn’t just come here to make up the numbers against a team with over a thousand international caps,” he said. “It’s just a pity we didn’t get something from the game.”
