Groves puts the boot into Redruth

The trusty boot of Ashley Groves kicked to a deserved win against a lacklustre Redruth side who were left to rue several missed chances, notably in the first half.

Tactical kicking proved crucial with fullback Kieran Kelly and fly-half Groves pulling the strings for Old Reds.

Redruth came up with far too many unforced errors early whilst their kicking from hand was wayward.

At the end of a scrappy opening quarter they finally got their maul going with skipper Ben Fox stretching to dot down, -half Dan Rutter adding the extras.

The visitors reduced the deficit soon after when Groves kicked the first of his three penalties.

Lewis Vinnecombe showed glimpses of his old form as he scythed through the Old Reds cover but the attack came to nothing.

Rutter kicked a penalty on half-time to leave Redruth 10-3 up.

A charge hoof upfield and chase by prop Alex Harvey lifted Old Reds and soon after a wonderful backs move from Old Reds saw Sam Rees score in the corner.

Groves made up for his miss with a second penalty before Rutter replied with one of his own. Groves third near the end sealed the win.
