Christian Wade has secured a fairytale move to Racing 92, as he recommences his rugby career after four years away.
Wade, 31, made no hint at a return to the game when he spoke on The Rugby Paper Podcast less than a month ago, but was linked with a move shortly after, and our Blindside Columnist Neil Fissler confirmed the move would be announced this week, on Sunday.
An excited Wade took to Twitter to announce the move following a press conference in which it was confirmed earlier.
He said: “I’m excited to announce I’ve officially signed for Racing 92.
“Looking forward to working with this special group of people and winning championships!
“With God, all things are possible.”
Few, perhaps including Wade himself, would have seen this move coming so quickly, but he had hinted at the possibility of a return when he spoke on the Podcast.
When asked by our host Ollie Little on what his next move was going to be, he said: “You might see me pop-up in Europe again soon or somewhere else. You’ll have to wait and see.
“But I want to go into an environment that’s forward thinking, that also knows what they want, and is about winning championships and nurturing the youth.
“There’s various things that if I’m going to go to a team that they need to be all about, their mission statement needs to align with what it is that I’m trying to achieve.”
Clearly, Wade has found that to be the case with Racing, where he will become a ‘medical joker’ for Regan Grace, who is set to miss the vast majority of the campaign through injury.
