Rams started with a five-try flourish against a game Esher side.
The hosts made a dream start as they took a second-minute lead, a strong rolling maul allowing the ball to be spread to Axel Kalling-Smith, who blasted through three tacklers before touching down.
Fly-half Alex Seers added the extras in what would go onto be a virtuoso and man-of-thematch display, nudging the Rams 7-0 in front.
