Law makers should read Nick’s column

NICK Cain’s comprehensive argument about laws (May 15) enabling high scoring hookers should be read by all of rugby’s law makers.
Wings often must show some skill to score a try. Hookers do not. The 5m lineout is the prime example where the attacking side’s hooker is guided through by a phalanx of forwards, as part of the silly law change of 1993 effectively stopped the defending side from competing for the ball.
It should also be stated that this way of scoring was aided by an earlier law change. Sides who kicked for touch from a penalty did not have the lineout....
