ON the discussion about the 20-minute red card experiment, I understand the concerns that a permanent dismissal has the potential to ruin a game as a spectacle but I also understand the concern that serious foul play would not be punished as it should be.
Surely it would not be too difficult for a TMO or the citing officer to review the offence during the 20 minute hiatus and decide whether the offence was serious enough to be upgraded to a permanent dismissal. This could be a way in which serious foul play is properly punished and take some of the pressure off the on field officials.
