WHEN is a forward pass not a forward pass? Why does rugby union go against the laws of motion? What is the point of a TMO? I refer to the Saracens winning try at Sale in which Max Malins’ scoring pass started off outside the 22m line and ended up well inside it – and it was not spotted! I naively thought that, like the 3rd umpire in cricket, the role of the TMO is to improve decision-making and prevent such howlers.
Upon such decisions the match result and then league position are decided. Utter nonsense.
