They were grateful round Clermont way for the Nick Abendanon try that helped give them a 23-21 victory over serious rivals Racing. That’s because things have not really been champion of late for Clermont who started the game in seventh place in the table after lifting the crown last time.
And Racing are the team who have fought them tooth and nail for honours over recent seasons.
Just when Clermont thought that the title they had long craved would earn them the undiluted appreciation of their rivals, it turned out not to be so.
