WHAT struck me about the announce- ment of England’s Six Nations squad by Eddie Jones this week was the mix of old and new in the backline.
There were the well-known faces like Jonny May, Jack Nowell, Ben Youngs, Henry Slade, and of Owen Farrell (who is now a major doubt having suffered an injury while training with Saracens), but they were almost outnumbered by the new guys, with Marcus Smith in bubbling form, Freddie Steward, Raffi Quirke, Joe Marchant, the other Harlequins newcomer Luke Northmore, and Bath’s Orlando Bailey.
