WHEN the Springboks suggested a second match against their A team to fill a void in the fixture list, Lions head coach Warren Gatland dismissed the idea.
“We’re not here to help the Springboks prepare for the series,’’ he said.
No hindsight was required to wonder why the Lions didn’t recognise it as an opportunity to sharpen their preparation instead of settling for a meaningless repeat romp against the depleted Sharks.
