When Fitz Harding emerged from the bench for his Premiership debut in Bristol’s must-win game at London Irish last month, it completed a remarkable rise for the determined back rower who only three years earlier had been playing in Durham University’s 4th XV.

A late developer who played his junior rugby at Beaconsfield RFC, Harding had previously had trials with Wasps and briefly flickered across London Irish’s radar while attending Wellington College, but only in his second year at Durham did he begin to make a mark.
