Bargain buys from abroad will stymie English talent

AN already shrinking jobs market will become even tougher for aspiring young English players as more overseas stars seek lucrative ‘sabbaticals’ in Europe as a result of Covid-19, warns Gloucester No.9 Joe Simpson.
With Australian rugby in meltdown and Super Rugby players there forced to accept 65 per cent wage cuts, senior Wallabies Michael Hooper, Tevita Kuridrani, Matt Toomua, Dane Haylett-Petty and Rob Simmonds have been given the green light by ARU bosses to pursue short-term deals abroad to cut Union costs further and mitigate salary losses.
