Excluding Carling is an insult

THE ten best captains list printed in The Times last week was always going to be controversial with all disagreeing on some of the choices and their positions.
Although I have never been a believer in the idea that the captain is a ‘special’ player except in the eyes of the coach who picks him, it seems the list was compiled on a win percentage basis.
It feeds into the idea it’s the captain who wins the game, whereas in reality it is how good the group of players is that wins games.
