WESTCLIFF prevailed against their bogey side with two late tries getting them out of jail in a match in which they had always seemed in control but had threatened to toss away.
With the strong wind being a factor at the Gables, Westcliff were delighted to stamp their authority on the first half against the elements and led courtesy of a Jim Smith try converted by Jack Jones at half time.
With the Westcliff scrum increasingly in the ascendancy things looked bright for the second half, after all Sutton’s first-half efforts were frustrated by determined home tackling.
