Surgery rules Watkins out of Wales’ Six Nations start

WALES centre Owen Watkin will miss the start of the 2020 Six Nations after having knee surgery.
Watkin, 23, limped off during Ospreys’ 40-19 loss to Racing 92 on December 7 and is expected to be out for eight weeks. Wales open their campaign against Italy on February 1 in Cardiff before travelling to face Ireland seven days later.
Watkin’s absence will prove a problem for new coach Wayne Pivac, who is already without Jonathan Davies due to a knee injury.
