Broughton’s mighty roll of honour

BROUGHTON Park, solid citizens of North West 1 these days, are not a big name in the modern rugby world and indeed they were never particularly fashionable even back in the amateur days, but the North’s win over New Zealand in 1979 was undoubtedly their finest moment.
The small Manchester club, situated just south of Old Trafford, can lay claim to four of the conquering heroes against the All Blacks.
Full-back Kevin O’Brien, who was soon to attract the attention of the Ireland selectors, and Tony Neary were both proudly listed as Broughton Park players in the programme that day ...
