IT WAS a hoax good enough to grace any April Fool’s Day. But it ended with the Portuguese Rugby Federation threatening to call in Scotland Yard.
Blackheath kids’ coach Jack Kendall, a former England U18 and U19 international lock and tighthead, received the email, left, and excitedly informed The Rugby Paper and his local Dagenham Post.
We both ran stories…and then came a furious reaction.
Portuguese rugby vice-president Joao Pereira Faria contacted us to say Jack had not been offered a coaching role and that the story held his Federation up to ridicule.
