European bosses vote to scrap Continental Shield

SPECULATION is mounting over potential expansion in European rugby after the EPCR confirmed that their tournament for emerging rugbyplaying nations has been scrapped.
Launched in 2014, the European Rugby Continental Shield was a tournament for countries such as Russia, Georgia and Romania. Crucially, it was used as a qualifying competition for the final two Challenge Cup places.
However EPCR have confirmed that the Shield will not go ahead this season.
