BEDFORD kicked off their pre-season with an impressive first-half display en route to hitting 50 against Cambridge.
Sam Leeming was peerless off the tee as the hosts raced to a 28-0 lead, converting two tries apiece from Dan Temm and Robbie Smith.
The first from Temm was a beauty as winger Pat Tapley broke at pace and fed the on-rushing flanker nine minutes in.
But the Blood & Sand served notice that their attacking threat is much improved on last term as Ramaz Rukadze burrowed over just before the break, with Ben Penfold converting.
