CANADA No.8 Sophie de Goede admitted her team let victory evade their grasp as the USA recorded their first win of the tournament.
Two tries in the first 14 minutes for loosehead prop Olivia DeMerchant gave Canada a strong start to the contest, as they looked to rebound from their defeats to France and England.
DeMarchant’s double came by virtue of Canada’s pack making in-roads towards the USA tryline, with the prop darting from the left side of the ruck to cross over on both occasions.
