ENGLAND finished the Pool with a big bonus-point win over Australia but it was not enough to see them progress to the semifinals.
Having lost to Ireland in their opening game, and failed to garner a bonus point against Italy in the second, Steve Bates’ side were left with an impossible task as Ireland saw off the Azzurri side to claim second behind Australia.
England will face Ireland again in the fifth-place playoff on Monday.
