How is a driving maul not blocking?

I HAVE looked up the word ‘blocking’ in the dictionary and it states ‘an act of bodily obstruction’.
Now, on a rugby field, if a player in open play blocks an opposition player attempting to tackle the player with the ball, he is penalised.
In a driving maul there are seven players in front of the ball carrier blocking the opposition from tackling the player with the ball.
No penalty is given. How can this be right? To make matters worse we...
