Players need rest but clubs can’t afford it

YOU probably have to agree with the observation that England’s players need a rest, especially after a British & Irish Lions Tour.
What I fail to see is how English clubs can afford to do so.
For years the perennially successful Celtic teams in the PRO14 (current reincarnation), especially the Irish, have rested their international players in the sure knowledge that Champions Cup qualification is, barring a completely disastrous series of results, all but guaranteed.
The far more competitive English Premiership, with quite often ten clubs scrabbling for the six Champions Cup place...
