We need to remember the heroes from Grand Slams past

GRAND Slams these days come awash with tickertape receptions, medals and cash, enough in Ireland’s case to have earned their triumphant squad at least £60,000-aman in bonus money.
As the pyrotechnics blazed at Twickenham, another team of ageing Grand Slammers were assembling in Cardiff to be introduced to a crowd most of whom were far too young to recognize any of the names.
Too often sport fails to take the time to recognise those who blazed the trial, especially those who put their heads on the block for the glory of the game and the honour of playing for their country.
