England back-row Jack Willis will miss the upcoming tour to South Africa after sustaining a “significant multi-ligament injury” to his right knee, Wasps have confirmed.
Willis was injured in the Aviva Premiership semi-final defeat to Saracens on Saturday after being tackled by Owen Farrell.
The 21-year-old received his first call-up to the England squad ahead of the three-match Test series in South Africa.
Wasps confirmed Willis’ injury in a statement on Tuesday, which read: “Following consultation with a specialist, it has been determined that Jack Willis sustained a significant multi-ligament injury to his right knee during last Saturday’s Aviva Premiership semi-final.
“This includes a rupture of his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). The injury is expected to keep him out of action for a period between nine and 12 months.”
