SALE boss Steve Diamond admitted his team had no answer to the invention of Wasps in a brilliant firsthalf display.
But Diamond praised his team for how they fought back and criticised referee JP Doyle for failing to penalise Wasps in a crucial second-half incident.
Sale had recovered to be 36-28 down but lost the impetus when No.8 Nathan Hughes led a Wasps attack from a ruck inside the home half.
