Te Kuiti has not changed much since I first went there in 1987. A typical New Zealand North Island town where the economy was based firmly on sheep farming. Its only real claim to fame is as the home of perhaps the greatest All Black ever, Colin Meads – the NZRFU voted him Player of the Century in 1999 and he was knighted in 2009 – so it was entirely appropriate when they renamed it ‘Meadsville’ just for a day in honour of its greatest son.
