WHILE I’m all for the paramount importance of players safety, I do think that the refereeing of the high tackle law has gone too far.
There is an obvious difference between a dangerous high tackle and the harmless actions of someone trying to clear out a maul by pulling someone awa by putting their arms around the neck to wrestle them away.
I was at a recent match when some wag in the crowd shouted about a high tackle that was definitely above the ankle.
Where are we going? Surely our referees can distinguish between what is a dangerous high tackle and what isn’t?
