Second row Cory Hill has signed a new two-year contract with the Dragons to extend his stay with the region until 2020.
Hill, who has 10 caps for Wales, was made captain by new coach Bernard Jackman in the summer and becomes the latest player to continue the Dragons’ renewed emphasis in recruiting Welsh stars and keeping members of their current core.
“Cory is a natural leader of men,” said head coach Jackman, “despite being only 25 years old I had no hesitation in naming him our captain this season having seen his influence up close.
“He has broken through to being a regular in Welsh squads and he is a player that we are proud to have representing the Dragons.”
Hill joins Ross Moriarty, Richard Hibbard, Rhodri Williams and Ryan Bevington in adding Welsh international pedigree to the squad at Rodney Parade.
Commenting on his new contract, Hill added, “I had no hesitation in agreeing a new contract with the Dragons, the ambition and direction of the team is something that I am really excited about being a part of.
“Both Bernard and David have shown their determination through the signing of new players and the resigning of many other youngsters. There’s definitely alot to be excited about and I am chuffed to have extended my stay for another 2 years.”
He continued: “The supporters are awesome and have stuck by us through a tough couple of years so hopefully we will repay them over the next few years.”
Hill commented on the club’s takeover by the Wales Rugby Union in the summer, saying: “I think things are going to go forward in the future, which is good personally and good for the club itself.”
