Jack Clifford has been retained in a squad of 24 players by Eddie Jones ahead of England’s clash with Wales at the Principality Stadium on Saturday.
The Harlequins back-row forward has taken the place of Northampton flanker Teimana Harrison who has returned to his club after failing to come off the bench for England against France.
Leicester prop Ellis Genge has been omitted from the squad despite making the 25-man squad to play France and George Kruis has since been ruled out for the tournament.
Exeter playmaker Henry Slade has been included in the reduced squad which will be cut by one man to face Wales.
Clifford makes his first return to the squad after coming off the bench in the final two Tests of England’s tour to Australia in the summer.
The 23-year-old underwent ankle surgery in September which ruled him out for 10 weeks and he missed the start of the England Six Nations training camp in Portugal with a chest injury.
The explosive forward impressed for Harlequins while coming off the bench against Sale in the Anglo-Welsh cup on Friday night.
Flanker Tom Wood left Twickenham with his shoulder in a sling on Saturday but he is included in the squad and is likely to feature.
Both sides go into the game on the back of victories with England on a 15-match winning run, Jones will name his starting line-up on Thursday at 10am.
“We want to go there (Cardiff) and know that we are going to get better,” said Jones.
“We have had one week to get a bit of rust out of the system, and we want to go there and put in a pretty robust performance.”
