Yorkshire Carnegie have announced that Bryan Redpath will be their new head coach next season.
The former scrum-half, 44, who signed a two-year contract, joins the club with immediate effect after leaving his position at Sale Sharks yesterday.
He takes over from Tommy McGee who was dismissed last week.
He said: “I am excited about the massive opportunity and challenge we have here at Yorkshire Carnegie. There is a clear vision for what the club wants to do over the next few years and I want to be part of that project. The Championship is a hard division to get out of but this group of players has tremendous potential and the ability to ultimately get us back into the Premiership. To give ourselves the best chance of doing that next season we must finish in the top two however I am sure the players will also want to finish this season strongly.”
Executive President Sir Ian McGeechan commented: “We are delighted to have secured a coach of the calibre of Bryan for Yorkshire Carnegie. He is someone I have known well for many years and I can see that the same drive and passion he had as a player has been carried through into his coaching career. Having coached at the highest level with Gloucester and Sale, he was the ideal candidate to help us achieve our goal next season of a top two finish and our long term goal of returning to the Premiership.”
Director of Rugby Chris Gibson added: “Once Bryan became available, we were keen to bring him to Yorkshire Carnegie. We have five games remaining this season and we want to finish as high as we possibly can in the final table; Bryan’s arrival will certainly give the team a lift and hopefully enable us to finish this season strongly. By coming in now, Bryan will be able to play a key part in shaping our plans for next season both in terms of retaining our current squad and recruiting new talent and that will certainly give us an advantage moving forward.”
