Charlie Matthews is free to play for Harlequins this weekend after the eye-gouging case against him was dismissed at a hearing in London last night.
The lock was cited by the match Citing Commissioner Stefano Marrama for allegedly making contact with the eye area of Leinster flanker Dominic Ryan during the two teams’ Champions Cup clash last Saturday.
Although he was shown a yellow card following the incident by referee Romain Poite, he pleaded not guilty and, with the footage being studied and Ryan stating he “had not felt any contact with his eye area”, the Judicial Officer was not satisfied that Matthews had gouged Ryan and dismissed the citing complaint.
